Christopher Palmer

Albert and Jeanne Clear Career Development Professor and an Assistant Professor of Finance at the MIT Sloan School of Management

Christopher Palmer is Albert and Jeanne Clear Career Development Professor and Assistant Professor of Finance at the MIT Sloan School of Management, where he teaches corporate finance. He was previously an assistant professor at University of California at Berkeley, Haas School of Business, and has held research positions at the Federal Reserve Banks of San Francisco, New York and Boston.

Dr. Palmer’s research interests include credit, real estate, and auto loan markets, as well as household finance, structured finance, banking, urban economics and applied econometrics.  His research focuses on how credit, real estate, and labor markets respond to periods of significant upheaval. Currently, his work studies frictions in mortgage and auto-loan markets. His research has appeared in Advances in Econometrics, EconometricaJournal of Political Economy, Economics Letters, Review of Economic Studies.

He has received numerous awards, honors and fellowships, including the Earl F. Cheit Outstanding Teaching Award from Haas School of Business, and has been a Golub Center for Finance and Policy Fellow, Hellman Faculty Fellow, Barbara and Gerson Bakar Faculty Fellow, and a Humane Studies Fellow.

At Vega Economics, Dr. Palmer has consulted on cases involving residential mortgage-backed securities and net interest margin securities.

He holds a BA in economics and mathematics from Brigham Young University and a PhD in economics from MIT.
