Our featured expert, Dr. David Bradford, specializes in health economic policy and the impact of advertising and other informational sources on pharmaceutical markets. The Vega team recently supported Professor Bradford in a False Claims Act case where a long-term care pharmacy was alleged to give unfair discounts to nursing homes in exchange for drug referrals.

Dr. Bradford serves as a consultant to health insurance companies and medical care centers and has testified in several healthcare industry lawsuits. He has significant experience with funded research and has led nearly 20 funded research projects. Much of his research involves evaluating the impact of direct-to-consumer advertising for prescription pharmaceuticals. He also works on projects that assess individuals′ time preferences and that determine the effects of these time preferences on the demand for preventative healthcare. Dr. Bradford is a permanent member of the Health Services Organization and Delivery study section of the National Institutes of Health.

In addition to his numerous research projects, Dr. Bradford has authored more than 40 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. He is the Co-Editor of the journal Health Economics Letters and Associate Editor of Implementation Research and Practice. His other publishing contributions include positions on the editorial boards of the journal Health Economics and the newsletter of the American Society of Health Economists. Dr. Bradford is also an advisory board member for the American Health Economics Conference and the Southeastern Health Economics Study Group.

Prior to joining the University of Georgia, Dr. Bradford was Professor of Health Administration and Policy at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). While at MUSC, he founded and directed the Center for Health Economic Policy Studies. Dr. Bradford has also been a visiting faculty member at Yale Medical School and a tenured faculty member in the Department of Economics at the University of New Hampshire.
