Vega Economics and healthcare industry expert Randy Farber are retained by an information technology services provider, in a matter brought by a pediatric medical practice. The case centers around a 2018 hard drive crash where patient files and business records were lost and never recovered. The practice subsequently closed in July of 2023.
Mr. Farber was retained and is expected to testify about the variety of factors impacting revenue of independent medical practices in Massachusetts and how these factors that could contribute to the changes in revenue. These factors include the impact of COVID and trends in payer mix resulting in a payer pool with lower reimbursement rates. In addition, Mr. Farber is expected to testify that plaintiff's financial position was influenced by factors independent of any impact of the alleged data loss, including the addition of two physicians to the practice in April 2022.
Mr. Farber has over 40years experience in the health care industry and has held executive positions in payer and provider organizations for companies large and small. Currently, he is President of Farber Consulting Group, Inc., serving clients ranging from solo practitioners to Fortune 100 insurance companies. In addition to teaching through UCLA Extension, Randy is also an instructor in the graduate health administration program at CSUN.
