Michael Keane is a real estate developer and investor, city planner, and land development specialist.
In the REI space, Michael and his team transform living spaces and neighborhoods in major U.S. cities through multifamily development and investment.
In the field of urban planning, his focus areas include land use, zoning, and environmental impact assessment to support the use and development of real property. He has been responsible for managing complex land use applications and environmental assessment and impact statements for real estate development projects subject to discretionary approvals, including zoning map and text amendments, zoning variances, and special permits. In this capacity, he has led developers through regulatory approvals processes at the federal, state, and local level, resulting in approval and facilitation of thousands of units of affordable and market rate housing, often as part of mixed-use developments.
Michael has also overseen or collaborated on the preparation of comprehensive and master plans to guide the growth and development of cities.
He serves as an expert witness on matters concerning land use, zoning, and real property.
Since 2012, Michael has been an Adjunct Professor of Urban Planning at the New York University Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, where he has served as faculty advisor on more than 25 Urban Planning Capstone projects.
He has been quoted on zoning and other urban planning topics in The New York Times, Crain's New York Business, CBS News, and local media outlets, and regularly speaks on New York City's environmental review process and its influence on building design and land development, including in front of professional organizations such as the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC).
Michael is a member of the American Planning Association (APA) and an official member of the Real Estate Tech and Innovation Council with the Urban Land Institute (ULI) New York.
He received his Master of Urban Planning from Hunter College of the City University of New York, and also holds a Master of Arts in U.S. History from the University of Maryland College Park and a Bachelor of Arts from UMASS Amherst.
