The Small Business Association (SBA) Payment Protection Program (PPP) provided loans to help businesses keep their workforce employed during the COVID-19 crisis. Following the issuance of these loans, several small businesses brought legal action claiming the banks prioritized larger businesses and reshuffled loan applications rather than approaching them on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Vega team provides unique insight into these claims by creating a proprietary dashboard that allows visitors to visually access the PPP loan data by lender and date of approval, bucketed by loan size.

The original PPP loan data available through August 8, 2020 was published by the U.S. Department of Treasury. We cleaned and consolidated the 59 original data files and summarized it by dimensions that interested us. The final data we used to generate the dashboard is accessible via an online spreadsheet.
